 Meet Our Volunteers 

                                                  

This page is dedicated to the volunteers who serve our Post.  It is a page that will be updated on a continuing basis as we obtain pictures and narratives on all volunteers. If any volunteer would like to be included, please contact the webmaster.

It does not matter whether you have volunteered for 1 day, 1 month, 1 year or 5 decades. All volunteers deserve recognition and a 'thank you'.  It should matter that we recognize all volunteers for their efforts and congratulate them for what they  do for veterans and our community.  Every person is deserving of respect for enriching the lives of others.

Meet Vivian Parrish.  Vivian has been a member of VFW Post Auxilary for over 50 years.  She was President of the Auxilary in 1969.  Over the many decades, she has contributed to the Post in a variety of ways including meeting vendors delivering products, serving lunches after funerals, and a wide variety of other volunteer services to benefit the Auxiliary and the Post.   She has served as Color Bearer for the Auxiliary.  She has for many years  donated baked goods to assist in raising funds.  Vivian has contributed many, many hours volunteering for our Post.  Please congratulate Vivian for her decades of service. 

Meet Mabel Vankat.  Mabel joined VFW Post 2503  Auxilary in 1945, but was not able to renew her membership until 1950.  She has been an Auxiliary member since that time.  She served as Auxiliary President in 2003 and 2004 and has held other offices in the Auxiliary.  She has volunteered as cashier for Wednesday food nights for over 15 years.  Mabel has also performed as cashier at many other Post functions.  She has also been a member of the Bugeaters #10, Military Order of Cooties Association (MOCa) since 1992.  She has served as their treasurer since 1994.  Mabel was Grand President MOCA of Nebraska in  2004 - 2005.  Please give Mabel warm congratulations for her 6 decades of service and extensive contributions  to  VFW Post 2503.  

Meet Tomi Schroer. Tomi has been a member of the Auxiliary for over 10 years.  She has volunteered hundreds of hours to support after funeral lunches,  food nights, special dinners and many other fund raiser activities.  She is active in her church and volunteers there.  Please congratulate Tomi for her volunteer efforts and service to our Post.
Meet Lodine Christensen.  She has been a member of the Auxiliary for 15 years.  During that time she has volunteered to support many food nights, special dinners and many fund raisers.  She has also volunteered many hours supporting a wide variety of Post functions such as constructing weapon carriers for the Post
Honor Guard. Please congratulate Lodine for her service to the Post.
 

Meet Ruth Gerst.  Ruth has been an Auxilliary member for 18 years. During that time she has supported the after funeral dinners and served as  the Group Chairman.  She has served as the Auxiliary Treasurer since 1995.  She has also served as VFW Auxiliary District 10 Treasurer for 5 years.   Ruth has also contributed numerous hours supporting  food nights,  special dinners, special functions  and fund raisers. 

Please congratulate Ruth for her service to the the VFW, VFW Auxiliary and  Post 2503.

Meet Bev Johnson.  Bev is a member of the Auxiliary and volunteers for Sunday morning breakfasts and supports other functions in the Post.  She actively supports her  church, and volunteers much time at Omaha's Open Door Mission. Please congratulate and thank Bev for her volunteer efforts.

Meet Toni Geis.  Tonis is an 18 year member of the Auxiliary. She is also the Auxiliary's 'Cootie' President (Mama Clown).  She volunteers for food nights and supports other volunteer needs within the Auxiliary and the Post. She also volunteers time at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.  Please congratulate Toni for her efforts to support veterans and the Auxiliary.

Meet Blance Ferree.  Blanche has been a member of the Auxiliary for over 20 years.  During that time she has served as Chaplain, Patriotic Instructor, PAC and Legislative representative, and she is very proud of working with Gold Star members.  She volunteers considerable time for food nights, bake sales, steak fry, and membership dinners.  She volunteers at a Botanical Garden volunteers fro her Church Fellowship committee. Please congratulate Blance for her many years of support and volunteer service to veterans,  Post 2503, and her community.  

Meet Bernie Kobza.  Bernie has been a member of VFW Post 2503 for 25 years.  He has volunteered much time supporting Post 2503 functions. He also volunteers at the St Francis House;  at St Pius  Church; and at St Pius School Cafeteria.  Please congratulate Bernie for his contributions to  Post  2503 and to his community.

Meet Bill Thielen.  Bill is an employee of Post 2503 but also volunteeers considerable time in the kitchen cooking for food nights and  Sunday breakfast.  He volunteers to support the Auxiliary as their Santa Claus and Easter Bunny.  Bill volunteers because he enjoys helping the Post and enjoys working with good people.  Please congratulate Bill for supporting Post 2503.
Meet Sue Griffith White - Wheeler.  Sue has been a 'life member' of the Auxiliary since 2004. She has served as Past Jr. Vice of the Auxiliary; Past Conductress, Parade Walker, and Color Guard.  Sue has also supported Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen and other programs for youth.   In addition to working full time and part time, she volunteers for many food nights, special dinners, and other functions within the Post.  She volunteers at her church and Roncalli Catholic High School. Please congratulate Sue for her many efforts to support Post 2503, the VFW and her community.
Meet Linda Humphery.  Linda has been a member of the Auxiliary since 2006.  During that time she has contributed many hundreds of hours supporting food nights, special dinners, special functions, funeral lunches and activities such as the 'classic car show' nights.  Her efforts have made a considerable difference to the success of many fund raisers.  She has given much to make the Post better. Please give warm congratulations  to Linda for her volunteer efforts.

Meet 'Jim Bob' Gerke.  Jim has volunteered to help with 'Hamburger nights' for over 6 years. He also volunteers at the annual rodeo and fair in Wahoo. Please give Jim a high five for his volunteer efforts and thank him for supporting ost 2503 and veterans.

Meet Mary Cirian. Mary has voluntered for over 1 1/2 years.  She has worked at the Open Door Mission for over 3 years.  Mary also makes sandwiches for the homeless at Holy Family.  Please congratulate Mary for her service to VFW Post 2503 and her community. 

Meet Janice Davis.  Janice has volunteered at Post 2503 for six months. Please congratullate Janice for her support of Post 2503. 
Pat Peterson

Meet Pat Peterson:  "I give what I can" as a volunteer.  Pat has been with VFW Post 2503 since 1970 when the Post met at a Church.  Pat states that the Post has grown much since that time.  Volunteering has been a big part of Pat's life since joining the VFW.  Pat is in his 16th year of being a volunteer representative of the VAVS for the Department of Nebraska.  He is in his 18th year of volunteering to support Wednesday night food nights at the Post.  Pat is a 2 time All American Post Commander and a 2 time District Commander.  Pat  encourages all members to join in to help the Post serve its members and the community.  Please congratulate Pat for his 4 plus decades of service to his country, his community,  the Marine Corps and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Meet Joe Peterson: Joe volunteers because:  "My brother Pat makes me work". Please congratulate Joe for supporting his brother Pat, his community and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Meet Travis Drucker:  "I was asked to help and I like to help." Travis is a new volunteer of 1 month. Please congratulate Travis for contributing to his community and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Meet Sue Peterson:  Sue has been helping Pat Peterson during Wednesday night food nights for 7 years.  She volunteers because she supports our troops and veterans.  Please congratulate Sue for her contributions to community, country and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Meet Denny Peterson:  Denny has been volunteering for 8 years on Wednesday night food nights with his brother Pat.  He volunteers "Because I'm Pat's Brother". Please congratulate Denny  for his contributions to community, country, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Meet Mary Fenton.  Mary has been in the ladies axiliary for over 20 years and has been active as a volunteer during that time. Mary has conributed much time supporting Post activities during her time as a volunteer.  Please congratulate Mary for her considerable efforts to support VFW Post 2503 and its Ladies Auxiliary.
